Quote of the day

12 Jul

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”-Steve Jobs

A brilliant man with brilliant words.

Song of the now

11 Jul

i used to listen to this song back in high school, along with all of Postal Services other ‘big hits’. But somehow I forgot about them until a month or so ago I was on the beach with my friend, Nick Shattuck, who is a guitarist as well as soloist (an amazing one at that, check him out on iTunes! and listen to his version here from soundcloud–AMAZING) and sang an acoustic version of the song. It instantly reminded me how much I loved them, and had to share!

Sweet Home Mercer Island

11 Jul

Well, I finally made up my mind. In all of my indecisiveness, I made a decision. I am moving home to Seattle in 20 days! There is just something about Seattle that just keeps on bringing me back. As I mentioned in a previous post, ever since I left I wanted to go back. And after 6 or 7 years of being gone I was still not where I wanted to be. I kept making excuses as to why I should stay in LA. And finally this week it all became clear and I took the plunge! I will soon enough be a granola Seattele-ite and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I also can’t wait for the rain. As crazy and ridiculous as that sounds all this sun has been driving me crazy!

How can you not want to live in a state that looks like this? I mean–without the rain the river would be desolate and the trees would be BROWN!

So, going back to the Wizard of Oz theme–there really is no place like home, and I can’t wait to be back at mine! See you soon Gracie, George and Mickey!

Quote of the day

11 Jul

“Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don’t.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy.
They just promised it would be worth it.”

A few inspirational words before I go to bed. Goodnight everyone!

Song of the now

Apparently I heard this song first when i was a sophomore in college and living with my friend Samantha at the University of Arizona, but was reintroduced to it a couple of weekends ago in San Luis Obispo and haven’t been able to stop listening to it. Enjoy.

Not Your Average Dream Job

10 Jul

Most little girls dream of what they want to be when they grow up–it can range from anything such as a princess to something as ambitious as being president. I, on the other hand, never had such a dream. In fact, for as long as I can remember I just wanted to be rich. A trust fund would be suitable. I was lazy and I had accepted that. Being a princess took too much preparation, and President, well let’s just say that never once crossed my mind as a glamorous job. So you would think, once I got to college I would have some type of epiphany and my dream job and future profession would come to me. Well it didn’t. I saw all my friends around me figuring out their majors and finding their “careers” while I was stuck in between journalism, communications, media arts, sociology, psychology… etc. Whatever took the least math, I’d claim it as my own. So it should come as no surprise when I graduated college I was still at a loss for what I wanted to do. (Not much has changed, just to warn you… since moving to California I have lived in three different houses and ‘maintained’ three different jobs. I am indecisive. So be it) Continue reading

Auntie Em–There’s no place like home.

An aerial view of Bellevue, Mercer Island and Seattle.

Nothing like an impromptu trip home to make you appreciate it’s beauty. There truly is no place more beautiful then Seattle (in the summer). All throughout high school I was that teenager who had nothing but negative things to say about their hometown. “I hate it here.” “Everyone sucks.” “I can’t wait to leave and go to college.” I guess it goes without saying “You don’t know what you got til it’s gone” because the minute I got out of Seattle, the only thing I wanted was to come back.Which is why it’s funny I ended up in Los Angeles. My five years at college (yes, I did a victory lap… I wasn’t ready to leave) I kept telling my friends and peers that no matter what happens come graduation day, I am moving back to Seattle. Well, WALLA! Graduation day came and passed–and I am still not where I thought I would be. Don’t get me wrong, LA is gorgeous. The beaches, the men… but that’s as far as LA’s beauty goes.
